The Workplace Charging Scheme

Are you thinking of getting electric vehicle chargers installed at your workplace?

We think that sounds like a great idea – let us help you with your charging solutions.

Workplace charging

With the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) you can get support towards the upfront costs of the purchase and installation.

Cost Saving By incorporating EVs into your business you will quickly be able to see that there are sizable company car tax savings, which have gone up dramatically since April 2020. Plus, you will be able to see BIK savings for your employees and fleet fuel cost even if you only have one Electric Vehicle. Check out the government WCS guidance for more information.

Because EVs have about 10 times fewer moving parts than a combustion engine there are also major vehicle maintenance savings. If there is no oil, there is no oil to change and no oil to leak. And with a pure EV there is no car tax to be paid either, instead you will be earning CSR points for your business.

Be Green while saving money?  Sounds like a win win to us!

On the note of being green, having EV charging at your workplace will also radically improve your company's sustainability rating. It will increase your future employer retention, as well employee satisfaction. What’s not to love about that?

Grant funding

The big difference between Workplace Charging Scheme WCS and the home scheme is that you do not need to own an EV to apply. The scheme is designed to encourage you and your employees to make the switch to an EV easily in the knowledge that you charge it at work and right now the Government is offering grants of 75% towards the cost of installing workplace electric charge points.

The grant allows you to claim grant funded assistance for up to 40 sockets across your business locations. There are some basic questions regarding your business, such as company ID, number of employees and as the grant operates under  De Minimus State Aid regulations you will be asked about aid received in the last 2 fiscal years and as such the business needs to make the application not the installer.

OLEV also recommends that all applicants have a site survey with an authorised installer ahead of applying. This really helps as we can discuss the best options for your business and also ensure that the electrical capacity of the site(s) can support the number of sockets applied for. Have a look at the government website here to find out everything you need to know about the WCS.
